We read in Daniel Chapter 6 that the king signed a “firm” decree stating that he was the only one who could be prayed to for thirty days.  Anyone caught disobeying would be thrown into the vicious lion’s den.  When Daniel knew this was signed he went home and prayed, with his windows open, three times that day, as was his custom.  The king was informed about this by his other leaders, who were jealous of Daniel, as his excellent spirit distinguished him above them.  The king was greatly displeased with himself and labored all day to find a way to deliver Daniel because he was aware of his excellence.  He had even been thinking about putting him over the whole realm.   When it came to no avail, the king said, “Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you.”  And that’s just what happened!  After a sleepless night, the king rushed to the den very early and cried out to Daniel.  He respectfully answered and said, “My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.”  When he was brought up from the den no injury was found on him because he believed in his God.   The “firm” decree melted as the new one was “firmly established”…the one that acknowledged God as” The Living God” Who should be revered!
