In defense of Jesus, upon his arrest, Peter cut off a man’s ear; John 18:10-11 & Luke 22:50-51. Since Jesus had already agreed with His Father, when He had gotten up from His agony in the garden, that He would give His life willingly, He healed the man and told Peter to put up his sword. In other words, He was saying, this is not the approach we will take. On another occasion, prior to His arrest, Jesus told some of His accusers that He would lay down His life, that no one would take it; John 10:17-18. Isaiah 53:7 says He was led as a lamb to the slaughter. He didn’t open His mouth. How touching that He humbly and willingly gave His life for you to live…eternally with Him.
