True friendship is so beautiful!  In First Samuel, chapter 18, we see the beginning of such a lifelong relationship.  Verse one says the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.  Because of their love, they made a covenant, as Jonathan took off his robe and gave it to David, along with his armor, sword, bow and belt.  This friendship was sealed upon their very first encounter. Even though Jonathan’s father, King Saul, was jealous of David, and repeatedly tried to kill him, Jonathan defended and protected him, remaining loyal and true to the end of his life.  When David was made aware of King Saul and Jonathans’ deaths he mourned, writing a tribute song about them, to be sung as a memorial.   After David became King, he brought Jonathan’s crippled son, Mephibosheth, into his palace to eat at his table continually (for the rest of his life).  David and Jonathans’ bond is such a beautiful picture of our friendship with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ.  When we accept Jesus as Savior, we enter a covenant relationship and become clothed in His robe of righteousness, as He removes our crippling sins.   It is then we become sealed in Him; Ephesians 4:30.   He gives us spiritual armor and authority; Ephesians 6:10-18 & Luke 9:1.   He defends, protects, cares for, and guides us our entire lives.  He even rejoices over us with singing; Zephaniah 3:17!   He will escort us to heaven one day, where we will eat with Him, enjoying our everlasting friendship, as we celebrate!   What a God!  What a Savior! What a Friendship!  Reciprocate it by showering your love (full of praise and worship) on Him, and adhering (sticking closely) to His beautiful ways, not becoming weary in well doing, which has reward; Galatians 6:9.   Let Him remain your number one, and no other…for He is a Friend, who sticks closer than a brother.
